About Tattoo Style Guide

Tattoo Style Guide is an independent editorial guide for people choosing tattoo ideas, placements, styles, and artists with more care than a saved image folder can give them.

What we do: We help readers turn a tattoo idea into a better decision: the right scale, the right placement, the right artist, a clear meaning when meaning matters, and a design that can still read after it heals.

Who edits Tattoo Style Guide

The site is edited by two named contributors. We keep the bylines visible because tattoo advice should not feel like anonymous trend scraping.

How we decide if a tattoo idea belongs here

A tattoo idea has to survive more than the first photo. We look at how the design sits on moving skin, whether the line weight has enough room, whether the placement will fight the tattoo, and whether the symbol is being treated with enough context.

  • Readability: Can the main shape still be understood from normal conversation distance?
  • Placement: Does the body part support the design, or is the idea being forced into a trendy spot?
  • Aging: Are the lines, spacing, contrast, and color choices realistic after healing?
  • Artist fit: Does the article point readers toward the kind of portfolio they should actually look for?
  • Context: If a symbol has cultural or spiritual weight, do we slow down instead of treating it as decoration?

What we are careful about

Tattoo content sits close to skin health, consent, culture, money, and regret. We do not pretend one article can replace a licensed artist, a studio consultation, or medical advice. Aftercare and safety guides are written conservatively and point readers toward primary public-health sources when needed.

For decision guides, we prefer plain tradeoffs over hype: hand tattoos fade faster, tiny tattoos need more space than people expect, ribs hurt for many first-timers, and a cheap tattoo can become expensive if it needs repair.

What we do not publish

We avoid copied flash dumps, generic “100 ideas” pages with no placement advice, fake medical certainty, and tattoo meanings presented as universal truth. A butterfly can mean transformation, grief, freedom, or nothing deeper than liking the shape. The wearer decides the final meaning.

Start with the right guide

If you are early in the decision, start with first tattoo ideas, the tattoo placement chart, or how to choose a tattoo artist. If you already know the symbol, use the symbol and meaning guides. If you are choosing by look, use the tattoo styles guide.
